Wylie West Junior High is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of eighth-grade student Noah Rolerson, who was named the 2025 Patriot’s Pen essay contest winner for the state of Texas. Representing VFW Post 6873 in Abilene and District 8, Noah earned this prestigious recognition through his inspiring essay, which he presented at the VFW Texas Awards Banquet in Corpus Christi. The event, attended by 350-500 members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), honored young writers for their reflections on patriotism and American values.

Noah’s success continued at the national level, where he was awarded the Eric G. Sandstrom Memorial Award by the VFW Department of Washington in March. This award commemorates Sergeant Eric G. Sandstrom, a decorated World War II Silver Star recipient, who demonstrated extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Noah’s recognition highlights his ability to express profound appreciation for veterans and their sacrifices through his writing.

As part of his achievement, Noah received a $750 scholarship, which he plans to use toward his future academic goals. He aspires to pursue a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and continue his passion for civic engagement and leadership.

Wylie West Junior High congratulates Noah on this incredible honor and looks forward to seeing him accomplish great things in the future!
